SEAN LOETHER
With his latest release, In The Middle, guitarist, singer, songwriter Sean Loether combines the many influences that helped shape his eclectic style. Ranging from traditional blues, toe tappin’ rockers to folk tinged tales of lost love, he’s managed to create a personal menagerie of songs that travel from Austin to Nashville with stops in New Orleans, Memphis and back to his home base of Southern California. The music rides the razors edge of American music and is tied together with thought provoking lyrics that will make one think about their own journey in this thing called life...
Born in Los Angeles, Ca. he began playing guitar at age 11 after picking up his brothers abandoned acoustic guitar and started taking lessons from an Irish immigrant that taught at the Catholic school he was attending.Soon he was playing every Sunday mass, until a neighbor gave him a beat up Stratotone guitar and a Sears amplifier and it was clear where his musical direction was headed. By the time he got to high school, he was listening to records and trying to figure out licks from Humble Pie, Led Zeppelin, BB King, Cream, Eric Clapton and others. Soon the jam’s began, which eventually led to a string of bands.
At 18, he was fortunate enough to do a recording session with a Southern Rock band named Bitter Creek, that set the stage for his love of composing, playing and recording music."I ended buying a 4 track reel to reel, then an 8 track and then a 16 track, which became a canvas for songwriting," he states.
Soon after he found himself in Boston, attending Berklee College of Music studying jazz guitar and furthering his experiences and skills."Berklee was a great experience, as its a microcosm for the real world. You learn real fast what you need to work on and the vibe there spurs you on", he says.
After attending Berklee, he attended the University of Portland in Oregon where he played and toured with their Jazz Ensemble and various local blues groups, culminating with a degree in Music Education. Realizing he wanted to pursue more playing opportunities and focus on songwriting and session work, he relocated to Southern California where he continues to compose, play and teach music.
